It’s not too hard to find a reasonably priced hotel in Berlin that’s still very comfortable. My favourite up to now is in Friedrichhain: Michelberger hotel.
Michelberger Hotel is a mix of perfect location, great atmosphere and lovely rooms. Location is everything during a citytrip, so I love the fact that this hotel is situated opposite the U-bahn stop Warschauer Strasse, at the border of Friederichshain and Kreuzberg.
I ‘m always happy to immerse myself into the alternative, edgy atmosphere of the area. Rawgelände with all the clubs and streetart, Skalitzerstrasse which is one big streetart canvas, as well as Köpenickerstrasse, the Eastside gallery, Boxhagener Platz with all the lovely little shops and places to brunch and have coffee.
The lounge of Michelberger is great: couches, books, lamps made of magazines, lovely art… It’s an ideal place to relax both during the day as well as in the evening. There is a lovely bar thats serves both drinks and snacks.
The breakfast is great: organic, local and fresh. There are several kinds of bread, homemade granola, fruit, vegetables, a selection of cheese and meat …
I haven’t tried lunch or dinner yet, but a blog we trust, Berlin Foodstories, really recommends it.
We had a cosy room. The first time I stayed in Michelberger, there was a lack of decent pillows, but the second time, the pillows were really good.
